The village of Filaki is named after the old jails that were in the village during the Turkish occupancy.  Filaki means 'jail' in Greek.  This building inside the village limits has been inspected by the archeology department in Chania and is said to be build during the Venetian era, they can not date it exactly and have said it must be build in different stages starting around 1200.

The main building is about 240 sqm and consists of a ground floor and a first floor with a balcony that overviews the mountains and the sea.  The plot is surrounded with a stone wall and inside there is a courtyard (garden) and next to the building there are several ruins that can be renovated into livable spaces.

The building needs a total renovation from the start but is applicable for subsidy by the government to renovate and furnish it.

Because of the monumental value the building will be guaranteed of a subsidy.

There is also the possibility to rent it as a holiday home and be eligible for subsidies.

The house is located in Filaki, Chania, a traditional village with mountainviews and seaviews, looking over a valley of olive trees and with a river separating the prefecture of Chania with Rethymnon.  The village has a local 'cafenion' and in Episkopi, which is 1,5 km away you can find supermarkets, post office, all kinds of shops and more tavernas and cafenions.  The beach of Episkopi is 5 km and the beach of Kavros is 6 km away.

Rethymnon, the nearest town is about 15 km away and Chania about 50 km.
